PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of a blade phenomenon in an image region and to stably form a stain-free image at a low cost by writing a latent image pattern in the abutting position of a cleaning blade in the nonimage region of a photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION: The latent image pattern is formed in the nonimage region on the outer periphery of the photoreceptor 100 whose image and nonimage regions are uniformly electrified by a scorotron electrifier, in a peripheral direction by an image exposure means. The cleaning blade 116a is provided with a mechanism for abutting the blade 116a on the outer periphery of the photoreceptor 100 and releasing the abutting and control is executed so as to make the start of the abutting of the cleaning blade 116a on the photoreceptor 100 almost coincident with the top end part of the latent image pattern in the nonimage region. Therefore, toner stuck to the top end loop part of the blade 116a is soared up to the latent image pattern in the nonimage region, to cause the blade phenomenon therein, so that when the image region reaches the position of the top end loop part of the blade, the soaring up of the toner stuck to the top end part of the blade has already been completed. Thus, the occurrence of the blade phenomenon can be prevented. |
