A mobile terminal for managing message storage and a method thereof are provided to efficiently manage the memory capacity of a message storage box according to the data capacity of a new message in case the new message is received. A mobile terminal for managing message storage comprises a message storage part(170) and a message storage control part(200). The message storage part(170) stores received or transmitted messages. The message storage control part(200) comprises a message data size checking part, a message list management part, and a message storage management part. The message data size checking part, if a message is received to the mobile terminal, checks the size of the received message. In case that the size of the received message data is larger than that of the remaining space of the message storage part(170), the message list management part creates a message list to sequentially delete certain messages among the messages stored in the message storage part(170). The message storage management part creates a control signal to delete the message list and store the received message in the message storage part(170).
