Substantially gel-free polymers and copolymers of conjugated diolefins such as 1,3-butadiene are prepd. in a continuous process by employing a sufficient amt. of a 1,2-diolefin gel inhibitor such as propadiene to prevent the formation of gel during polymerisation. An organic Li cpd. e.g. LiBu is used as polymerisation catalyst.
