A radiation flux detector is made by encasing a thin metal filament in a silicon glass capillary tube. The filament is sealed into one end of the tube, which is then evauated while the filament is being de-gassed. The other end is then sealed. The activation of the filament can be measured to give the flux. The detector is protected by the glass from corrosion, mechanical breakage (to a certain extent) and the silicon glass is transparent to the radiation and can be used up to temps. of 1250-1500 degrees C.
|
