PURPOSE: To load articles adjacent to each other on a pallet by a gripper with forming layers by improving an article loading device. CONSTITUTION: A palletizer 23 lifts, carries and places a carton 10. A gripper 27 is fixed to an articulated arm 24 to have vertical transport arms 29 and 30 and transport legs 31 and 32 attached thereto, and grips the bottom surface of the carton. The transport legs are rotated from transport postures facing a horizontal direction to releasing postures substantially facing a vertical direction and, after the carton is loaded by setting a small gap, the gripper can be freely extracted and the gripper itself is rotated from the substantially vertical posture to an inclined posture to be widened, and by rotating the transport legs 31 and 32 in a horizontal direction, the carton is gripped.
