PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition which can exhibit excellent mechanical strengths, especially excellent breaking toughness and excellent impact strength, without deteriorating flowability by using a polyarylene sulfide (hereinafter referred to as PAS) having a controlled low mol.wt. component content and a controlled mol.wt. distribution range. SOLUTION: This PAS has (A) an inherent viscosity ηinh (dl/g) of 0.1 to 0.5, (B) a mol.wt. distribution of <=5.0 determined by gel permeation chromatography, and (C) a chloroform-soluble content of <=0.5 wt.%. The PAS preferably further has a breaking toughness value Kc (Mpam1/2) and an inherent viscosity ηinh (dl/g) which satisfy the relation of the inequality. A PAS resin composition comprises 30 to 80 wt.% of the PAS satisfying the above conditions and 70 to 20 wt.% of an inorganic filler (preferably glass fibers, carbon fibers or the like). The composition is expected to have improved mechanical strengths, while maintaining flowability. |
