PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent breakage of stairs for a wheelchair by enabling to immediately reduce weight over a prescribed weight when applied to stairs for a wheelchair to be less than the prescribed weight. SOLUTION: In this escalator for a wheelchair in which a wheelchair having a physically handicapped person on it to be moved on stairs 1 for a wheelchair, a weight switch 11 which is actuated when weight of prescribed weight or more is applied to the stairs 1, and an alarm device 12 to generate an alarm when this weight switch 11 is actuated are provided.
