1,071,306. Continuous casting. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. Jan. 31, 1966 [Feb. 2, 1965], No. 4231/66. Heading B3F. A rotary continuous casting-machine comprises a cooled rotatable drum (34), Fig. 5 (not shown), with an outwardly-facing channel with which an endless band (38) co-operates to form a mould cavity. The side walls of the channels are provided by rings (33) resiliently mounted on the drum so as to be radially displaceable in respect of the drum axis and in relation to the bottom (42) of the channel. In operation the radial displacement is proportional to the shrinkage of the casting in the mould cavity. Coil (45) or flat springs may be used to facilitate the resiliency of the rings and engaging involutetype teeth members (53) between the drum and rings permit positive drive. Further roller support means (58) and (59), Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown), are specifically placed to control the extent of the side ring displacement so as to prevent displacement at the pouring position on the drum until the metal has sufficiently solidified in the mould cavity. |
