380,266. Card indexes. MANN, A. and COPELAND-CHATTERSON CO., Ltd., Cope-Chat Works, Dudbridge, Stroud, Gloucestershire. Sept. 29, 1931, No. 27105. [Classes 16 and 146 (i).] In a vertical card index comprising cards of successively increasing height so that a projecting strip is exposed at the upper edge of each card, a printed line or other indication is provided on each card adjacent to the projecting strip so that it is concealed from view by the next card of the group, but is exposed to view if that card is missing. The index may comprise sub-groups of cards of the same height and with projecting tabs spaced laterally. In the arrangement illustrated, each card is provided with a printed line c and also with spaced divisions h containing numbers, and the projecting strips b are marked with corresponding numbers in groups of ten ; an incorrectly placed card is detected by the lateral displacement of its indication number, and a missing card by exposure of the printed line and numbers. To detect reversal of a card, a strip at the bottom edge of each card may be distinctively marked by shading or otherwise. |
