[Also in Division B8] Opening and closing of a window sash 13 is achieved by ends 32 of two arms 11 sliding in grooves 36 on the sash when quadrants 17 on the arms meshing with a worm 22 are rotated in opposite directions by a pulley 24 operated by an endless cord. The ends 32 each have a connector piece sliding in a groove 36 on a lower member secured to the sash. The upper part 16 of a housing 14 enclosing the worm gearing hinges at (46) at the side remote from the sash, Fig. 3 (not shown), to a bracket (30) screwed to the window frame 15. In order to accommodate the change in angle in the vertical plane between the control arms and sash as the latter rises, a rod-section 35 pivots in grooves 36. In a modification Figs. 6-10 (not shown) one arm comprising links (59), (61) is used, while the housing covering the worm wheel hinges about an internal U-shaped bracket 67 attached to the window frame. In both embodiments the grooves are made of aluminium and the connectors 32 of nylon. A heavy plastic or metal tablet, Figs. 11-13 (not shown), is attached to the endless operating cord. |
