A second chamber in the pressure vessel has a pipe for coolant efflux from the core opening into it separated from the ends of the chamber and contains two heat exchangers, one each side of the pipe and together forming a single flow path. Means are provided of splitting the coolant flow from the core that part enters the heat exchanger circuit upstream of the heat exchanger and part between the two exchangers, the proportion being changed as required by a sliding sleeve around the first exchanger, with a shoulder at each end against which the sleeve forms a block at each extreme of its travel.
