Wire rods are fed mechanically to the welding machine under the control of one man. - A gripper picks up the ends of the rods and carries the towards the welder where the ends are entered into pairs of rolls fixed in a framework. - This moves horizontally and vertically to bring the rods opposite the point of entry to the welder, in which position they are held from underneath in another carriage. - This then feeds them into the welder step by step for welding to the transverse rods already there. - When about half the welds have been made, another mechanism takes over, pulling the partly completed mesh through the mchine, and the feed device is thereby released to receive the next batch of rods for the next mesh. - By the use of photo cells, etc., the process can be automated.
