The heat treatment for the continuous production of panels esp. of wood chips and wood dust has a supply system for the delivery of superheated steam through a spreader and drillings in the heated pressure plates to apply the steam from both sides, the material subsequently being cooled and dried by compressed air passing through the material between the pressure plates from alternate directions.
