The probe is suspended on a drum-wound reactors. The main cable is connected via a plug and socket to a spiral coil of cable, wound around a central spigot within the hollow shaft of the drum. The other end of the spiral cable terminates in a fixed connector on the end wall of the housing for the shaft bearings. The method avoids the use of slip rings and brushes and hence reduces the inherent resistance of the measuring circuit.
