摘要 <p>Parent patent claims an industrial filter for sepg. suspended solids from a liq. The filter is partic. suited to drain sewage sludge, etc. with a solids concn. between about one gramme and several hundred grammes per litre, with simultaneous prodn. of a clarified filtrate. The sludge is passed radically outward through a cylindrical mesh wall. The wall can be compressed axially to vary the screen size of the mesh wall, which is composed of spring elements which adopt their original form when axial compression is relaxed. Periodically, a filter cake of drained sludge is discharged axially from the cylindrical space within the mesh wall. Improvement is that one end of the filter element is secured to a fixed end of the filter chamber. The other end of the element is fixed to an annular collar sliding axially within the chamber and integral with the inner side of a mobile end of to the chamber. The mobile end is pref. outwardly flanged to match a flange on the same end of the chamber; bolts, etc. can be used to adjust the spacing of the flanges and so regulate the length of the filter element. Simplified arrangement is provided for adjusting the loading on the spring filter element and thus altering the screening mesh size. A tension spring can be made of lighter gauge material than compression springs, reducing weight and occupied vol.</p>
