PURPOSE:To facilitate the formation of a film which is self-supporting, has high conductivity and shows liquid crystal properties by polymerizing a pyrrole derivative through electrolytic or chemical oxidation. CONSTITUTION:A film which is self-supporting, has high conductivity and shows liquid crystal properties is easily formed by polymerizing a pyrrole derivative of the formula [wherein R<1> and R<2> are each H, a (substituted) alkyl or a (substituted) phenyl], (e.g. methyl 4-methylpyrrole-3-carboxylate or stearyl 4- phenylpyrrole-3-carboxylate) through electrolytic or chemical oxidation. This film is one having high strength and safety because it is free from low-molecular liquid crystals, etc., which do not take part in the polymerization reaction. This film has a possibility of application to a display element, a recording element, etc., in which light, heat, pressure, electricity or the like is utilized. |
