The gas spring with damper unit incorporates a gas filled cylinder (1), in which a piston (9) slides. Between the piston and cylinder is a chamber (23) which is filled with hydraulic fluid, which passes into a second chamber (4) upon the piston returning to its rest position. The fluid flow is controlled by a valve (33) and orifice (25) providing damping action. Upon compression of the spring, fluid flows from the second chamber through the valve with less restriction, allowing rapid compression as opposed to retraction. USE/ADVANTAGE - For car axles, with damping in extending direction, compact design, and long service life.
