A container (10) for growing plants comprising a main body (11) with an open top (14) and perimeter rim (15), and a funnel-like water collection means (20) having an inner mating perimeter (21) adapted to adjoin the perimeter rim (15), an outer mating perimeter (22) of greater size than the inner mating perimeter (21) and a sloping surface (23) connecting the outer mating perimeter (22) to the inner mating perimeter (21), such that overhead water is captured and directed onto the open top (14). The water collection means (20) may be detachable. The water collection means (20) has mating edges (24) adapted to continuously and contiguously abut mating edges (24) of like containers to form a solid water capture surface in all directions when multiple containers are properly positioned. The invention provides a means to conserve water in plant nurseries by directing all water from overhead irrigation sources into the plant containers, while allowing the plants to be grown in individual containers.
