PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator in which PE and PP are mixed uniformly and moreover which is economical, and provide a simple and economical manufacturing method of the separator in which PE and PP are mixed uniformly, and provide a battery in which a short circuit between a cathode and an anode due to an excessive temperature rise and moreover which is economical. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the battery separator includes a methylation treatment process which methylates a part of polyethylene in a polyethylene base material (porous PE film 57) containing polyethylene as a principal component and makes polypropylene.
