1,269,925. Dealkylating alkyl aromatic compounds. IDEMITSU KOSAN CO. Ltd. and MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 16 Oct., 1970 [9 April, 1970], No. 49332/70. Heading C5E. Alkyl aromatic hydrocarbons are dealkylated by heating in the presence of steam and a catalyst comprising BeO and Ni metal. The reaction may be effected at 350-500‹ C. at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure. The feedstock may be toluene, o-, m- or p-xylene, ethylbenzene, cumene or methyl naphthalene or a mixture thereof, and when the feedstock contains two or more alkyl groups the product may be completely and/or partially dealkylated. Examples describe the conversion of toluene to benzene; xylenes to toluene and benzene; ethylbenzene to toluene and benzene; cumene to ethylbenzene, toluene and benzene. |
