PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of a portable telephone set by automati cally selecting a voice recognition mode without the need for manual operations. SOLUTION: The portable telephone set 10 is provided with a voice input section that receives a voice of a talker and provides an output of an electric voice signal, a voice recognition section 18 that recognizes a voice of the talker inputted when the portable telephone set 10 is switched over to the voice recognition mode set to and conducts prescribed processing, a charging terminal 54 connecting to a charger 52 at the time of charging, and a control section 20 that controls prescribe processing such as registration, recognition, retrieval and calling based on a signal from the voice recognition section 18. The portable telephone set 10 is also provided with a charging terminal voltage detection circuit 56 that outputs a detection signal to the control section 20 to control the portable telephone set 10 to be set to the voice recognition mode when the section 56 detects it that a voltage at the charging terminal 54 is lower than a charging voltage of the charger 52.
