Roller (12) has hub (16) fixed to skate (10) and rim (22) rotating freely on hub. Rim is mounted on ring (28), and brake jaw (50) is arranged on ring. Control part (48a) and spring (42) activating jaw are arranged so that, by exerting force along direction perpendicular to roller axis, jaw is separated and enters into contact with rim, thereby braking its rotation. An Independent claim is also included for the description of the skate.
