PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide aryl thiourea derivatives and related compounds which are useful as antiviral agents.

SOLUTION: Compounds of formula I and pharmaceutically acceptable salts there of: wherein 1-(4-(pentyloxy) phenyl)-3-(4-phenylbutanoyl) thiourea is specifically exemplified, possess potent antiviral activity. The above compounds are particularly potent and/or selective inhibitors for Hepatitis C virus replication. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more compounds of formula I, or a salt, solvate, or acylated prodrug of such a compound, and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers, excipients, or diluents.
