1,227,704. Magnetic heads. SONY CORP. 11 March, 1969 [15 March, 1968], No. 12718/69. Heading G5R. A gap spacer formed between magnetic core members 1A, 1B consists of a layer 4 protecting the associated core member against oxidation and etching, and a non-magnetic, metal oxide layer 5. As shown, a single ferrite crystal 1 is grooved 3, machined flat at the intended interface with a similar crystal, then etched with dilute HCI. The crystal is heated to 400‹ C. and the protective layer formed by vapourdeposition of SiO 2 . The assembly is preheated to 200-400‹ C. and an acid solution of a halide of Sn, Zn, Cd, In, Pb, Sb or Si and/or an acid solution of a salt of Sn or Ti is sprayed or vapourdeposited on the protective layer, then heated to 400-600‹ C. to form the metal oxide layer in crystalline form. The assembly is cut, joined by adhesive 6 to a similar assembly and a winding 7 provided. The method is applicable to alloy core members and to those having polepieces of material different to the remainder of the core members. The metal oxide layer may be provided on only one core member and omitted at the back gap. |
