1,165,552. Centrifugal pumps; hydraulic turbines. ESCHER WYSS A. G. Oct. 6, 1966 [Oct. 8, 1965], No.44720/66. Headings F1C and F1T. In a ring of adjustable guide blades 1 of a hydraulic rotary machine, e.g. a high pressure pump-turbine, each blade is pivotable about an axis 2 and the sealing point 3 is spaced from the edge 4 of the blade by at least À04 times the blade chord length and is spaced from the axis 2 by a distance R which is not more than 1À25r. The distance of the sealing point 3 from the edge 4 may be 0À05, 0À08 or 0À11 times the chord length, and R may be 1À15r, 1À18r or even less than r. The sealing edges at the points 3 can be formed by suitably curving the contacting surfaces of the portions 1<SP>1</SP> or 1<SP>2</SP> of the blades. Alternatively, beadings may be provided to form the contacting surfaces or strips of resilient material, e.g. neoprene, rubber or nylon, may be inset into the portions 1<SP>1</SP> of the blades. The blades need not have the same profile over their entire span, and they may be pivoted about axes extending obliquely or at right angles to the axis of the machine. |
