Cleaning of machine parts in an organic fluid e.g. white spirit is in a tank in which they are immersed in a wire basket. The tank is connected with a amin air tight tank by means of a vertical pipe, the main tank being also connected by means of another pipe with a three-way tap to a compressed air supply and atmosphere. The cleaning fluid is made to rise into the cleaning tank by its displacement in the main tank with compressed air, the connecting pipe between the tanks being immersed deeply enough in the main tank fluid to permit an adequate amount of fluid to be transferred.
