The electrical balance works on the principle of electromagnetic force compensation and is provided with a balance pan (3), with a transmission lever (7) and with a flat coil (10) attached to the transmission lever (7). This flat coil (10) is located in the field of a fixed permanent-magnet system (11, 12, 20, 21), the soft-iron return (20, 21) of which forms a partially closed box. The plane of the flat coil (10) is perpendicular to the horizontal axis of rotation of the transmission lever (7). The soft-iron return (20, 21) is of box-shaped form and contains an at least partially open side in the longitudinal direction of the transmission lever (7) relative to the axis of rotation of the latter. This results in a simple and easily assemblable embodiment which also allows good magnetic screening. <IMAGE>
