Disclosed are N-(indolcarbonyl)piperazine derivatives of the formula (I), in which the indole ring may also be replaced by an isatin unit, physiologically acceptable salts and solvates thereof, process for their preparation, their use in the manufacture of medicaments a pharmaceutical preparations comprising the same. The compounds of formula (I) are a 5-HT2A receptor antagonists and are suitable for the treatment of psychoses, schizophrenia, depression, neurological disorders, memory disorders, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, eating disorders, such as bulimia, nervous anorexia, sleep disorders, including sleep apnoea, premenstrual syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder and for the prophylaxis and treatment of consequences of cerebral infarction, such as strokes and cerebral ischaemia.
