A jacketed vessel comprises a glass lined inner metal tank 12 and an outer jacket 14 joined thereto by top and bottom connectors 36, 26 respectively to form a chamber 28 for circulation of a heating or cooling fluid, the outer end of the connector 36 being provided with a reinforcing ring 34 of rectangular or circular cross-section. The connector 36 is in the form of a truncated cone of cone angle between 50 and 60 degrees from the horizontal and of 0.6 the wall thickness of the tank 12, and is welded to the tank before the glass lining is fired and then either welded to the ring 34 or directly to the top of jacket 14, in which case the ring 34 is welded to connector or jacket at the point of contact. The bottom connector 26 includes a flexible annular diaphragm. |
