The invention relates to an exhaust turbocharger for internal combustion engines, in which a turbine wheel is fixed to one end of a shaft supported in a bearing housing and a compressor wheel at the other end, which wheels each rotate in a spiral housing, the spiral housing of the turbine wheel being sealed off from the bearing housing by means of at least one sealing ring. In order to prevent hot exhaust gases from the exhaust-ducting spiral housing from penetrating into the inside of the housing by way of the sealing ring, the area between the rear side of the turbine wheel and the sealing ring is subjected by way of a pipe to the charging pressure prevailing downstream of the compressor wheel. For reducing the exhaust gas pressure in the area of the rear side of the turbine wheel, the latter is provided with blades or grooves in order to form a radial fan.
