PURPOSE:To use polyvinyl alcohol and/or its copolymer as a component to be removed and permitting to use an aqueous solution as a removing medium and further add a basic aqueous solution to the aqueous solution as the removing medium, in a method for producing ultrafine fibers by removing (A) a sea component from a conjugate fiber comprising (A) the sea component and (B) an island component. CONSTITUTION:Polyvinyl alcohol and/or its copolymer, especially an ethylene- vinyl acetate copolymer saponification product having an ethylene content of >=15mol.%, is used as (A) a sea component, and a hydrophobic thermoplastic resin, especially propylene homopolymer or high density polyethylene is used as (B) an island component. The components (A) and (B) are melt-spun into conjugate fibers, and a basic aqueous solution is used as the removing medium for (A) the sea component. |
