[Also in Division C3] An oxymethylene polymer sheet, film or hollow article has an adherent continuous layer of a microcrystalline wax coated thereon. The coating may be applied by dipping, padding, or spraying the article with the wax, or by dissolving the wax e.g. in cyclohexane or acetone, applying the solution to the article, and thereafter removing the solvent by drying. In an example, flat sheets formed from copolymer of trioxan and ethylene oxide are coated with microcrystalline waxes, and also, in comparative experiments, with paraffinic waxes. The articles have an enhanced resistance to permeation by water. |
