An improved surge suppression and line conditioning device is described. The device filters interference from the incoming AC line current, suppresses voltage transients, and provides a plurality of protected outlets for attached equipment. The device also protects attached equipment from brownout or low voltage conditions. In addition, the device incorporates phone line surge suppression and electronic switching of the AC outlets. A master slave relationship exists between some of the outlets such that a piece of equipment connected to the master outlet can control equipment connected to the slave outlets. The device is built with low cost components that achieve a unique combination of high performance, multiple features, and low cost. The device also has fail safe and test modes that allow the user to determine whether the device is functioning normally and automatically disconnects attached equipment altogether in the event the device fails. 38
