PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte containing tetrafluoroaluminic acid ions which enables suppression of liquid leakage from a cathode and an anode of an electrolytic capacitor. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor contains the tetrafluoroaluminic acid ions and one or more kinds of compounds selected from a group consisting of phthalimides, quinolines, dioximes, nitrophenols, and amino group-containing aromatic carboxylic acids.
