A graphite base is covered with a tantalum coating, an intermediate layer of tantalum carbide being used as an undercoat on which the final tantalum surface is formed. The undercoat may cover the whole surface of the anode but the tantalum layer is only on the end face. Alternatively both may be formed on the end face only. |
