1,159,528. Vinyl acetate. CELANESE CORP. 23 May, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 23778/67. Heading C2C. Vinyl acetate is obtained by reacting ethylene with acetic acid in a Redox system comprising an acetic acid solution of a salt of a noble metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Table, a source of acetate ions, a source of chloride ions, Cu<SP>II</SP> ions, and oxygen, the catalyst salts being regenerated by heating, in the presence of oxygen, a mixture of the acetic acid slurry of precipitate formed from the catalyst salts, optionally containing vinyl acetate, with hydrochloric acid and a C 2 -C 6 aldehyde or chloracetaldehyde. |
