PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin excellent in both transparency and impact resistance, by mixing a prepolymer comprising a rubber-like substance, an aromatic monovinyl monomer, and an acrylic monomer with a prepolymer comprising a mixture of both the monomers and polymerizing the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:A solution comprising 3-18wt% rubber-like substance (e.g., polybutadiene rubber), 95-57wt% mixture of an aromatic monovinyl monomer (e.g., styrene) and an acrylic monomer (e.g., methyl methacrylate) and 0-25wt% solvent is polymerized to a polymer conversion in a range in which the formation of particles of the rubber-like substance does not occur. Next, the first stream is continuously mixed with the second stream which is a solution comprising 75-100wt% mixture of an aromatic monovinyl monomer and an acrylic monomer and 25-0wt% solvent and being in mid course of polymerization to allow the rubber-like substance to form particles. This reaction mixture is further polymerized to obtain the titled resin containing 2-22wt% rubber-like substance.
