PURPOSE:To produce a poultice having excellent water-retainability, shape-retainability, stickness and stability of the active component, and free from penetration of the drug component through the base and irritation to the skin, by adding a polyvalent metal derivative and/or polyvalent metal salt of an amino acid to a base containing a water-soluble polymer. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble polymer (e.g. gelatin, CMC-Na, etc.) is incorporated with a polyvalent metal derivative of an amino acid (preferably dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate) and/or a polyvalent metal salt thereof (preferably magnesium potassium aspartate) as a metallic ion donor. The amount of the metallic ion donor is preferably 0.02-2% of the whole poultice base. The functional groups of the water-soluble polymer form loose crosslinks with the polyvalent metallic ion to form a stable structure, resulting in the improvement in the water and shape retainability. Since the poultice can be maintained to acidic state, the active component such as salicylic acid ester, etc. can be stabilized and the skin irritation can be mitigated.
