Powder laden air from booth for the continuous or batch spraying of articles is discharged through a primary suction unit with surface filters (22) in the conduit (50) to retain powder for collection and reuse. Such collection and/or return of powder is effected via a secondary suction conduit (53,54) joining the booth interior to an external suction unit (8) including a filter (82) with its separate powder collected chamber (86). This secondary conduit is formed by at least one channel positioned below the operating area of the main filter (22). The secondary suction system includes a suction wall (45) with a rotating ring of angled cleaning elements (42) immediately ahead of the suction aperture. Filter elements are cleaned by pulsating pressurised air. ADVANTAGE - Total cleaning air suction force is more effectively used.
