The invention relates to stretching frames for works of art painted on canvas. The tension auto-adjusting device consists of a strip A which fits, as appropriate: a) into a stretching frame C of adjustable size, b) into a wooden beading B having a rectangular cross-section which is fixed onto any stretching frame C. The dimensions of the strip are calculated according to defined parameters and on the basis of the material used. The ends of each strip form a certain angle with respect to the base. This tension auto-adjusting device is particularly suited to stretching canvas paintings. It can be used by artists (painters) and picture restorers. <IMAGE>
