Bipolar plate made of steel has a corrosion-protecting edge layer produced by reacting the substrate material steel with a reaction partner during the course of a thermochemical reaction. Preferred Features: The electrical conductivity of the edge layer is 0-1 Ohm.cm. The edge layer is rich in borides, e.g. iron boride, nitrides, e.g. chromium nitride, or carbonitrides, e.g. FexCyNz. The substrate is made of a special steel containing alloying additions of Cr and Ni. |
