PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin cosmetic which has an active oxygen species eliminating action, an esterase-inhibiting action, a collagenase-inhibiting action, etc., and is useful for preventing and improving the aging of the skin, by making the cosmetic contain an extract which is obtained by extracting the rhizome part of Bergenia ciliata with an extraction solvent such as water or a hydrophilic organic solvent. SOLUTION: This skin cosmetic contains an extract which is obtained by extracting the rhizome part of Bergenia ciliata with an extraction solvent such as water, a hydrophilic organic solvent (preferably methanol, ethanol, 1,3- butylene glycol or propylene glycol) or their mixture. The extract of the Bergenia ciliata rhizome part is preferably compounded in an amount of 0.05-2 wt.% based on the cosmetic. The cosmetic is prepared in the form of an ointment, a cream, a milky lotion, a lotion, etc. The cosmetic may be compound with an oily component such as avocado oil, a humectant such as glycerol, a compound lipid, an active oxygen-eliminating action substance, such as SOD, etc.
