PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a graphite film excellent in thermal conductivity, surface hardness, surface adhesiveness and appearance, and to further obtain a thick graphite film excellent in such properties. SOLUTION: A method for producing such a graphite film by graphitization is provided which comprises heat-treating a polymer film at≥2,000°C, wherein a nonuniform layer/nonuniform phase (a pattern of undefined form the shortest diameter of which is 0.1-50μm) is present in the film before and/or during the heat treatment.
