PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter which has transparent protective layer and columnar projections to regulate thickness of a liquid crystal layer, which permits production of a color liquid crystal display device with excellent display quality, and to provide a producing method to easily produce the color filter above described. SOLUTION: This color filter 1 has a transparent protective layer 6 which contains resins having different acid values and which is formed to cover at least color layers, and columnar projections 7 containing resins having different acid values which are formed at plural specified positions of the substrate to project over the transparent protective layer. The transparent protective layer 6 has larger content of a resin having a lower acid value than in the columnar projections 7. In a first process, after a color layer 5 consisting of plural colors of a specified pattern is formed on a substrate 2, a photosensitive resin layer containing a resin of different acid value is formed to cover at least the color layer 5 on the substrate 2. Then the photosensitive resin layer is exposed through a photomask having openings corresponding to the pattern for the formation of columnar projections 7 in a second process. Then in a third process, the photosensitive resin layer is developed to produce the color filter. |
