A wire has an inner insulating layer of cured polyethylene 5 to 20 mils thick with an etched surface and an outer layer of a thermoset flame-retardant coating 0À5 to 2 mils thick. The flame-retardant coating is a halogenated or halogenosulphonated polyolefin, such as chlorinated polyethylene, chlorosulphonated polyethylene or fluorinated propylene, and may be coated with an anti-sticking compound such as a methyl cellulose-protein mixture. A release layer such as paper or plastics tape, or an organo-polysiloxane may be interposed between the conductor and the inner layer. |
