The device has a handgrip (1) fitted at the top with a magazine (2) holding at least one signal capsule which can be fired to provide a light, smoke or sound signal. The handgrip and the magazine are coupled together via cooperating coupling elements (15,16), the bottom end of the handgrip provided with identical coupling elements (21) to those at its top end, for securing a cover (3), a second magazine, a lamp, or a position sensor.
