A fuel supply, for example a carburettor, valve, is opened and closed by rotation of a spindle 64 secured to a quadrant 62 connected to a wire cable 70A in a sheath 72 of a Bowden cable operated by an accelerator pedal. An end of the sheath 72 is held in a ferrule 76 in a block 98 pivoting on secured together side plates (104 and 106, Fig. 3) which can be rotated in directions a1 and b1 by drive through a shaft (110) from a gearbox 112 driven by a reversing electric motor (116). That rotation in direction a1 or b1 causes the cable 70A to be moved so that the fuel valve opens or closes respectively, so as to increase or reduce the supply of fuel to the engine. The electric motor (116) provides drive in response to signals from an electronic control, and overrides whatever fuel demand the pedal is making. The electric motor may be operated in response to a gear change lever 26, an automatic transmission, a cruise control or vehicle wheel slip.

|
