A stream of signatures 18 is delivered by a first conveyer section 13, 17 on to tines 47 of buckets 19 mounted on a second conveyer section 44. Spring means (not shown) coupled between chains 44 and the back supports 46 of the buckets normally urge the buckets in the direction of movement of the conveyer. A latch controlled by solenoid 59 holds back the bucket preceding the one being filled against the action of the said spring means until a pulse from a signature counting device causes its release, allowing the held bucket to accelerate rapidly into a position in which it may intercept the signature stream. Rollers 26 and 27 are adjustable to various positions in slotted sideplates 35, 38 to position the downwardly directed section of conveyer belts 17 in close proximity to the forming stack. This section of belts 17 together with belts 57 may serve to engage the front and rear edges of the stack to assist accurate piling. Roller 30 is adjustable vertically to maintain tension in belts 14. |
