A centrifugal sepn. process, esp. for removing lead from exhaust gas, uses two centrifugal fields, the axis of the 1st. rotating about that of the 2nd. at 80-90 degrees to it. In a prefd. apparatus, the 1st field is produced by a cyclone, (or several cyclones) with its axis radially mounted on a rotor (the 2nd field). Rotation of the rotor assists rejection of the separated heavy constituents along the axis of the cyclone, radially outwards from the rotor, while the lighter constituents move radially inwards. Exhaust gases enter the cyclones tangentially.
