A surgical forceps or clamp is provided with a first jaw provided with two or more rows or protuberances and a second jaw provided with corresponding rows of cavities or with grooves, the protuberances having a partspherical dome. As shown, the first jaw 11' of a pair of surgical forceps is provided with a plastics sleeve removably fitted over the end of the jaw and formed with two or more rows of protuberances 22, 22', the second jaw 12' of the forceps being formed with two or more grooves 34, 34' shaped to receive the protuberances. The plastics sleeve is formed with a longitudinal slot 24 extending from its open end towards the closed end 25, the slot communicating with an air gap 29 between the sleeve and the jaw and facilitating the application of the sleeve to the jaw. The protuberances of one row are staggered (see also Figure 3, not shown) relative to the adjacent row or, as in an embodiment (Figures 7, 8, not shown), the protuberances are in alignment. The longitudinal edges (40, 40', 41, 41') of the jaws are rounded and in a third embodiment (Figure 10, not shown) the protuberances and grooves are of increased depth. In a final embodiment a plastics sleeve (50) having a separate cavity corresponding to each protuberance is fitted (Figures 11, 12, not shown) on the second jaw of the forceps. It is stated that the handles of the forceps may include springs, wedges, screws, or cam devices for closing or adjusting the forceps. |
